When you’re not feeling well, Googling your symptoms is not necessarily a good idea. There are so many sources of information online that contradict each other; how do you know which is right, if any? Reading about symptoms can make the most even-tempered person a hypochondriac.
Business Insider reports that though people think that online research can cut down unnecessary doctor visits, “researchers found the opposite to be the case — two thirds of patients who used the symptom checkers but didn’t need medical attention sought it anyway.”
Mediktor from Teckel Solutions, however, is an advanced AI symptom checker for prediagnosis, triage and decision-making support that is easy to use and accurate.
AI triage solution
Mediktor users can easily interact with the solution in their choice of interface, such as app, web, chatbot or virtual assistant, by describing their symptoms in natural language.
They can then get help assessing their symptoms and get advice on what to do next. Ultimately, they may connect digitally with a clinician to help them make the right decision about seeking care.
The solution was originally provided as a free service and when Teckel Solutions was ready to expand it, company leaders knew it would have to comply with national data protection laws, such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Teckel Solutions wanted to partner with a cloud provider that would not only enable it to store its data and technology anywhere in the world, but also instill customer confidence related to stability and data security.
Teckel Solutions leaders chose to partner with IBM.
Supported by IBM Cloud
Mediktor runs on the IBM Cloud platform with IBM Cloud Virtual Servers provisioned by IBM Cloud Services.
IBM Cloud provides a flexible, reliable and cost-effective platform. The Mediktor solution can scale easily as the business expands. Developers do not have to spend as much time on infrastructure management, which means reduced costs and faster delivery.
The solution supports 50 concurrent users and can deliver answers in less than a second.
The cloud-based solution is available in a business-to-consumer (B2C) model and also offered as a white-label technology to health providers where it can be easily integrated with existing systems.
Reduces wait times
Mediktor is not a replacement for doctors. Most users do not need to visit a doctor or emergency room. Only 5 percent of user interactions are urgent. In many cases, the system connects users to a doctor for a chat, phone call or video consult to get further advice.
Overall, users are happy with the service, giving it a nine out of 10 rating. Ninety-five percent of people say it’s “friendly and easy to use” and 100 percent would recommend it.
In addition, preliminary studies show a 45-minute reduction in emergency room wait times.
